The copper module is the basic toolkit of Batik, involving an important handicraft in Bali.
The making process not only presents traditional culture of Bali but also tells a story
about Prefer Batik.
Carved on the copper module is the prettiest pattern (mostly refers to flowers and plants).
The experienced craftsmen create gorgeous patterns through two steps: dipping soft melted
wax prepared for resist dyeing, then printing on the materials.
Batik is a resist dyeing process. Expect the printed patterns left the blank since the wax can
prevent the fabrics from absorbing the dyestuff. In this way, Prefer Batik enriches its colors
with dyeing layer by layer.
After dyeing, it will take 24 hours for air-dried. This procedure is to make color fixed on the
fabrics of Prefer Batik. Thus, the air, wind and temperature become parts of Prefer Batik.
Prior to second dyeing, it is necessary to purify the rest stains from fabrics. Due to this process,
the former color won’t interfere with the latter.
The difference between traditional Batik and Prefer Batik lies in its layers and layers, from tint to dark.
It costs more time, labors and continually printing, dyeing, drying, and washing. Just as human’s
history, Prefer Batik accumulates its story by handworks.
Let’s end up here. But the story of Prefer Batik will be still continued. Handworks reveal unique,
inaccuracy, but no similarity. Is it perfection? I would rather say it is wholeness. Or completion.
